Faith

Jackie Nickerson spent two and a half years visiting Ireland ’s Catholic religious orders.

She photographed the priests and nuns who live in these communities, along with architectural details of entrances, libraries, kitchens and dining rooms. The Anglo-American photographer combines photographic research (“Farm”, 2002, was an interesting investigation of the world of South African farmers) with fashion photography (working with Armani, Trussardi, Burberry, Shiseido and others), revealing a hidden world with an almost documentary-like honesty that avoids suggesting an exploration of the mysteries of faith. The result of her work is entitled “Faith” and is on show at the Brancolini Grimaldi Gallery in Rome from September 18. Elena Sommariva
