The two artists brought together for an exhibition in Basel both share an interest in living space, architecture and the everyday.

Sosnowska, born in 1972, represented Poland at the Venice Biennale in 2003. She also made a site-specifi c project for MoMA in 2006 and is one of the most interesting artists of her generation. Zittel was born in 1965 in California and made a name for herself in the 1990s with her New Yorkbased project A-Z enterprise, which involved designing and making full-size furnitureobjects, spaces and clothing. Since 2000 Zittel has been living and working between Los Angeles and the Californian desert. The work on show from April 26 to September 21 illustrates the latest project, carried out in 2007 at the Schaulager. Born as a “container” (the building is by Herzog & de Meuron) for housing the Emanuel Hoffmann Foundation’s contemporary art collection, it makes the works permanently accessible to visitors and academics. Each year it also exhibits the results of a research project. Silvia Monaco
