Claudia Losi: Balenaproject

Millions of years ago, whales used to swim around the Apennine hills.

Millions of years ago, whales used to swim around the Apennine hills.

In memory of this distant past, in 2001 artist Claudia Losi, from Piacenza, launched her project to carry around the world a lifesize whale (24 metres long) hand-sewn in woollen fabric. It is a piece in continual transformation, accumulating stories and visions from contact with places and people along its way. From March 28, the whale, along with other works by Losi, is on show at the Museo Marino Marini in Florence, where it will remain until the beginning of July before moving on to the Icon Gallery in Birmingham.
