Marina Abramovic: Seven Easy Pieces

In the splendid setting of the Guggenheim, the pioneer of art performance, Marina Abramovic, will interpret five works by five colleagues. These are celebrated performances which were created between the Sixties and the Seventies by Bruce Nauman (on 9.11), Vito Acconci (10.11), VALIE EXPORT (11.11), Gina Pane (12.11) and Joseph Beuys (13.11).

Abramovic, of Yugoslavian descent, however, will not only limit herself to repeating past performances. She will also try to document the events to fill a gap related to this art form, ephemeral by definition, which must rely on eye-witness accounts, videos and photographs. To conclude, she will repeat a celebrated performance of hers from 1975: Lips of Thomas (on 14.11) and, lastly, on November 15th, the last of the “Seven Easy Pieces” announced in the title: she will perform a new work created especially for this project.
