Robert Morris at the Pecci Museum in Prato

One of the leading exponents of Minimal Art, Robert Morris, will be the undisputed protagonist in an exhibition at the Centro per l’Arte contemporanea Luigi Pecci in Prato. Around eighty drawings will be on show from the series “Blind Time Drawings” that took the American artist over thirty years (from 1073 to 2001). Made with his eyes closed (or blindfolded) using powdered graphite or etching ink, the drawings were made using the fingers directly onto paper.

“The fact of not seeing the sheet of paper while you draw – wrote Morris – undermines any idea of intent and questions the constitution of error as a limiting criteria. For anyone working blindfolded the notion of talent completely loses meaning”. The exhibition – the biggest ever organised in Italy – is also a homage to an artist who has carried out many important works in Tuscany such as “Labirinto” at the Fattoria di Celle and the altar, the bronze piece in the shape of a mantle and the candelabra at the Duomo in Prato.

Curator Jean Pierre Criqui, one of the leading experts on his art, has also chosen to show at the Pecci gallery a number of important works by the artist from Kansas City such as “Card File” (1962), “Box with the Sound of its Own Making” (1961), “Self-Portrait (Eeg)” (1963) and the large scale installation “Threadwaste with Mirrors” (1968-98).
