Twenty eight museums, forty young artists chosen by twenty five critics to reinterpret a work from the past make up the initiative Gemine Muse 2002, which from 30 November to 2 February will tour 24 Italian cities - Ancona, Bari, Bologna, Campobasso, Catania, Ferrara, Firenze, Forlì, La Spezia, Macerata, Messina, Milano, Modena, Padova, Pavia, Pisa, Prato, Ravenna, Torino, Trapani, Trento, Udine, Venezia, Vercelli. Promoted by Gai (Giovani artisti italiani) and Cidac (Associazione delle città d’arte e cultura), in collaboration with the department for architecture and contemporary art in the ministry for cultural heritage, the idea behind Gemine Muse is to create a relationship between Italian artistic tradition and young artists working today, as well as creating a network of exhibition spaces for contemporary art.
The artists chosen will exhibit a piece of work which takes inspiration from a piece in each museum which has made a particular impression on them, reinterpreting in their own way work from the past. The critics who have taken part are Guido Bartorelli, Massimo Bignardi, Davide Ferri, Mario Savini, Alberto Zanchetta whilst the artists include Daniele Alonge, Jacopo Benassi, Davide Bertocchi, Silvia Camporesi, Silvia Curzi, Federico Gori, Daniela Lubrano, Giulia Moretti, Alessandro Roma, Saverio Todaro, Carlo Vidoni, Ivan Zanoni.
