Foster and Partners have been chosen for the realisation of a memorial for the Police Force to be built opposite the old Admiralty Building, for which a budget of a million pounds has been mentioned. The monument has been designed together with Danish artist Peter Arnoldi and won the approval of the local council, despite opposition from the London Historical Parks Trust and a group of residents who make up the Thorney Island Society.
The memorial consists of an 8 metre panel made from stone, on which will be inscribed the names of all those who have died in service. A glass panel lit in blue – to recall the blue lights which identify British police stations – is mounted on steel supports.
