A Contemporary Art Centre opens in Turin
The Centro d’Arte Contemporanea della Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo has opened in Turin. This new exhibition facility is devoted to the latest movements in contemporary art. The 3500-sqm, completely new building, designed by the London-based firm Claudio Silvestrin, is situated in via Modane, in an area of the San Paolo district once occupied by the Fergat industrial plant.
An essential and flexible structure, it will rely on the services of artists, critics, curators and collectors to mount major international contemporary art shows. With a role similar to that played in Germany by the Kunstallens or in France by the Centres d’Art Contemporain.
The exhibition spaces will be opened to the public on Sunday, with the exhibition “Exit, New Geographies of Italian Creativity”, comprising 70 works, 63 of which were specially created for it, on 1000 sqm of exhibition space. The centre also houses teaching workshops, the auditorium, the Internet room, the bookshop, a restaurant and a cafeteria.
