After the last major solo at the Castello di Rivoli in 1995, “Joel Peter Witkin” is back in Italy at the Galleria Infinito Ltd., in Turin. Curated by Patrick Amine, the exhibition covers a long stretch of his career, from photographs taken in the early 1980s up till the present, together with previously unexhibited drawings. His photographs, which he prints personally, are almost religious tributes to altered worlds in which our perception of sex for instance, is overturned, along with the degradation of all that we call beauty in the history of art.
An internationally renowned artist, Joel Peter Witkin photographs the beauty of the meeting between life and death, celebrating the different and the bizarre, sorrow, altered humanity and freaks, until he ultimately attains to a classic beauty and aesthetic concept.
