Futurism in Milan: preview of the new Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art

An extensive preview of the works destined for the Museo del Novecento, due to open in 2005 in the Arengario which is undergoing restoration by Italo Rota, will be on display from 22 February to 28th April at the Padiglione d’Arte Contemporanea (PAC) in Milan. A selection of around a hundred paintings, sculptures and drawings chosen from the Milan civic collection will be on show, considered to be one of the most complete in the world it includes pieces by the great names of the period: from Boccioni, Balla, Depero, Severini, Funi, Oriani and Notte.

Opening the exhibition is the “Quarto Stato” painted by Giuseppe Pelizza da Volpedo in 1901, a piece that symbolically starts the century and the exhibition in the future museum. Also on display are books, postcards, photographs, letters and posters from the period.
