Emi Fontana: “I chose this piece as symbolic of the last ten years for various reasons. It was one of the most involving and demanding productions that has ever been carried out in the gallery. The first time that Mike Kelley discussed the idea with me was around five years ago and his exhibition in Milan seemed still something of a mirage. From then on I felt very involved in the project, there was a moment when I wanted to give it up, it seemed too difficult a production for a private gallery, but I was so bound up tooth and nail with the idea that I wanted absolutely for him to build this piece for me. It is a work of art which brings together many interesting aspects: the projected reconstruction of a situation, working on false memory beginning from a found photograph, and then the construction of the scene, a written and dramatic work which was very interesting in which the text was based on the interaction of the characters with the props. It was the first time that M.K. worked like this even though years of performances had clearly paved the way…”
