Dominican Republic, in La Romana, a minimalist house opened up to the Caribbean landscape

Estudio Mazara has designed a home in silent dialogue with the landscape, where the interplay of solids and voids, light and shadow and reflections accentuates the introspective and pacifying character of the composition.

A play of intersecting planes, immaculate surfaces carved by the sharp Caribbean shadows, and essential spaces that evoke harmony and contemplation: this is the essence of Flamboyanes 41, the house designed by Estudio Mazara in La Romana, Dominican Republic. Rising as a sculptural yet delicate presence, it stands amid green hills, palm trees, and paradisiacal beaches.

The 450 sqm house is laid out in a markedly horizontal pattern, among fluid and interconnected rooms alternating outdoor spaces with domestic living areas, where strategically placed openings in the solid walls offer privileged views of the surrounding natural environment.

The dialogue between solids and voids, between light and shadow, and the play of reflections on the pool's mirror of water that duplicates the Caribbean sky lend a vaguely "contemplative" character to the composition, accentuated in the interiors – finished with natural materials (stone, wood and plaster) and punctuated by textured furnishings – where a pacifying, rarefied atmosphere reigns.
