The design of the next Amazon headquarters in Arlington, Virginia, by US architecture firm NBBJ, has been unveiled. The building will be distinguished by a tree-covered glass tower that rises in a spiral shape above the rest of the city’s skyline. Amazon will call the building The Helix: “an indoor-outdoor building” open to the public that blends work spaces with two spiraling, “lush, open-air climbs to foster creativity and wellness.”

The project - 106 feet tall in total - will internally bring together approximately 800,000 square feet of office space, public gathering areas and street-facing retail, while outside there will be two sets of spiral paths dotted with local plants, walkable and leading to the 2.5 acre public park. With a focus on sustainability, the new headquarters will be LEED Platinum certified and run on 100 percent renewable energy.

Along with the Helix, Amazon also unveiled plans for the surrounding campus. It is, in fact, planning to build three 22-story buildings nearby around it. Between them, Amazon plans to create a plaza filled with green spaces and a dog run, all open to the public.
