Thirteen heavy letters each weighing between 130 and 420 kilos held by eight slender steel beams, for a total of just over three tonnes, almost 40 metres long and 5 high.

These are the vital statistics of the imposing “Allianz Arena” sign for the new stadium in Munich, one of Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron’s latest projects.

For commercial reasons and to leave space to the sponsors, during the world cup the sign has had to be taken down and has been transferred to the roof of the Haus der Kunst where the retrospective “Herzog & de Meuron No. 250 An Exhibition” will be held until 30 July. Building projects, samples of materials and details of the Swiss team’s design process have been installed in the museum’s gallery, with the unusual logo forming an integral part of the collection.
