The competition for the redevelopment of the Les Halles district of Paris at last has a winner: the French firm Seura/David Mangin. It is their project that will transform the “belly” of Paris into a vast urban park (four hectares) dominated by a pavilion and flanked by long walks, that will connect Les Halles with the Stock Exchange building.
The plan, described by the Mayor of Paris as “intelligent and realistic”, had reached the finals along with those of Rem Koolhaas, Jean Nouvel and Winy Maas, shortlisted from 32 competing entries. These four, radically different visions had for months gripped the attention of the French press. E.S.
