With a new location (in via Watt 27) and the launch of a book telling its story (edited by Gian Luigi Falabrino and published by Scheiweller), the Domus Academy celebrates its twentieth birthday with a party where guests include Adelaide Acerbi Astori, Stefano Boeri, Vico Magistretti, Davide Rampello, Alberto Seassaro and Riccardo Sarfatti. Playing host, Maria Grazia Mazzocchi, who founded the institute in 1983 along with Pierre Restany, Alessandro Mendini, Alessandro Guerriero and Valerio Castelli.
Their idea proved to be an astute one, to offer not just a post graduate design course (which did not exist in Italy at the time) but to also establish a place for research and a valid way of enriching, diffusing and keeping up to date the culture of design. It has seen the involvement therefore of not just designers but also anthropologists, psychologists, sociologist and a range of key figures representing many different disciplines, all contributing to make it a unique place on a worldwide level.
