Peter Eisenman: Leone d’oro for life’s work

Sixty-two year old American architect, Peter Eisenman, is the winner of the Leone d’Oro for lifetime’s work at the Ninth International Architecture exhibition directed by Kurt W. Forster, that opens at the end of the week. As part of Metamorph, Eisenman presents an original installation entitled, “Episodes” and four projects in other sections: “Concert Halls”, “Transformations”, “Surfaces” and “Hyper-Projects”.

The theme of metamorphosis dominates the Biennale, organised in two different areas, giving rise to a two way interpretation. At the Corderie dell’Arsenale over 200 works are displayed in a setting designed by Asymptote. At the Italian Pavilion inside the Giardini, space is given over to installations commissioned to a number of designers, with the aim of showing how changing times have resulted in recent transformations; new kinds of buildings, materials, construction methods and innovations in terms of ways of representing and realising architecture.

Other Leone d’Oro, are to be given for the best presentation, most promising young architect and for the ‘best’ city on water. The awards ceremony is to take place on Friday 10 at the Arsenale and will be introduced by film director Peter Greenaway. E.S.
