Bloccato il progetto di OMA per la TV cinese

The OMA Chinese TV project is blocked The Chinese government has blocked the project for the CCTV (China Central Television) headquarters by OMA/Rem Koolhaas. The object of ongoing criticism and controversy, the building has never been popular with public opinion. Now, at a time when attempts are being made to square the state budget, this was an almost inevitable cut (600 million dollars). What is as yet unknown is whether it is a momentary halt (as indicated by official CCTV sources) or, as reported by Reuters and one of the leading local press agencies, Xinhua, the plan has been permanently cancelled. Construction work on the 80-storey skyscraper (at 230 metres, it would have been the tallest building in the capital) was scheduled to commence at the beginning of the month. E.S.
