Aldo Rossi. L’archivio personale
Pencil, crayon and oils were the preferred materials of Aldo Rossi for working on his designs, which started with a conceptual sketch that had an almost childlike quality. The final drawings, which were prints not canvases, had the appearance and intense feeling of traditional paintings.
Allowing a closer look at what is a very personal way of interpreting architecture, MAXXI in Rome is showing this summer documents and writings from the Rossi archive that was founded in 2001 and acquired by the Direzione generale for architecture and contemporary art. Curated by Alberto Ferlenga, the exhibition consists of drawings, sketches, notebooks, models, paintings and watercolours that Rossi carried out from 1964 up until his untimely death in 1997. L.B.
