Safdie designs new Institute of Peace headquarters

Moshe Safdie was chosen to design the new headquarters of the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) in Washington DC. Work on the building (9,300 square meter surface) will begin in 2005/2006 and should be completed by 2007.

In April 2001 the institute had invited approximately fifty American architects to send preliminary designs for the building. Five finalists were chosen from the 26 proposals received and the winner was announced in December.

The Safdie and Associates studio is currently realizing two other projects in Washington: the National Health Museum and the General Services Administration office building.
