America Central y el Caribe

July–August

Domus America Central y el Caribe, July–August 2017
Throughout history, the relationship between the different actors of a city – its governments and its inhabitants – was shaped through urban and architectural interventions. Everyday life was spent in parks and buildings.

Public architecture is, therefore, a reflection of ideologies and plans of government. The 21st century denotes less monumentality and more social awareness, with direct actions that impact quickly in the city. This edition of Domus Central America and the Caribbean covers the most important public architecture projects in the region.

From Puerto Rico, The Muñoz Marin Park, by architect Andres Mignucci, seeks the construction of new places for social integration, as well as the Conjunto Deportivo Tirrases in Costa Rica, designed by architect Luis Diego Barahona.

A spectacular project in Mexico, combines a new auditorium with an archaeological site, integrating different times through the void. The hand of Isaac Broid and PRODUCTION producer, appears in the Auditorio Cultural Estatal Teopanzolco.

In the section Confeti, we share the work of several Latin American architects, who intervene the public space to improve the inclusion in the cities. Also a temporary installation of architect Fernanda Canales in Mexico and the description of the Civic Center of Guatemala, a classic of Central American architecture, written by Raúl Monterroso.
