The February–March issue of Domus Sri Lanka therefore celebrates the Domus objective that has over the years supported the qualitative growth of the architectural/design field. The Confetti section gives an elaborate account on the 1000th issue of Domus Italy, Domus Mille – a collectible hard cover edition that gives an insight into the journey of this publication. Alessandro Mendini gives firsthand accounts, to appreciate how a number of maestri and protagonists worked with this concept.

Leveraging on the past, this issue explores the future of architecture in Italy and Sri Lanka. Two Sri Lankan projects are featured, one a renovation of a British period warehouse by Thisara Thanapathy who has been able to create a patch of green haven in congested Maradana in the heart of Colombo city. The second project is the house by Kumudu Munasinghe where he has designed a family home that evolved from the basic model. Here the architect has been able to blend global trends with contextual requirements, drawing inspiration from a Tamarind Tree at the entrance of the house.

International projects include, the challenging task of creating a 50,000 square metre luxurious hospitality facilities for Qatar’s flag carrier and a refined solution for split-level living quarters in London, while Donata Paruccini speaks about how her career is unfolding.
The feedback section takes you back in time to marvel the ancient structures of the Polonnaruwa Kingdom of Sri Lanka and ponder on its influences. The structures indicate the skill in architecture, planning and masonry as well as stonework that represents the creative genius and advance technology that reflects a heritage that the country can be proud of even today.
