Through selection, research, coverage of specific projects and face to face in-depth interview with the architects, we aim to present the status quo of architecture industry from different dimensions, to explore the different possibilities of architects’ practice in China, as well as to present reflection and anticipation of architecture in China from architects of different kinds.

In this issue, Domus China “Scan China” column features the installation “With the Wind 2015– It Is Your Call” by Jiakun Architects in Venice Art Biennale, “Stepped Courtyard” by OPEN Architecture, the newly completed installation work “Instant Peach Blossom Spring” by Atelier Li Xinggang, “Bamboo Pavilion” by DnA_Design and Architecture as well as China Pavilion for Milano Expo by Studio Link-Arc in collaboration with Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University. Domus China also has interviewed principles from different types of architectural firms, namely independent, private and foreign firms. Starting from the projects, these principle architects has expressed their views on the development of architecture in China in the past decade also in the future.

In the epic of the whole progress of the architectural development in China, the architects practicing now are writing the most crucial chapters through their projects. Not just being a simple slogan, “Scan China” records and “scans” each project genuinely and objectively. With the readers, we wish “Scan China” could reveal the panorama of the architecture industry in China through the specific architects and their projects. At the same time, we wish every single architect practicing in China could join “Scan China” together with their projects.
