The DeLorean is coming back as an electric car

The owner of the DMC brand has promised a full reveal of a new electric version of the sports-car from the 80s. Production will start in Texas before the end of 2022.

The DMC-12, better known just as DeLorean, will be back in 2022 as a fully electric sports vehicle. DeLorean Motor Company has taken to Twitter to announce the new deadline and release a teaser video of the new car. The current DMC has nothing to do with the company that originally manufactured the car made famous by Doc Brown and Marty McFly in the 80s. The Brand was acquired in the late 90s by Stephen Wynne, a self-taught mechanic from Liverpool who emigrated to the US in 1980 and built his fortune repairing DeLoreans and other British and French cars.

DMC was short on details about the new car, but it’s pretty clear that the new “DeLorean EVolved”, as the vehicle will probably be named, will be a luxury electric vehicle. The company didn’t mention much about specs, but there is a chance that the car will be based on the EV platform developed by Italdesign and Williams Advanced Engineering. The Italian design company posted a teaser of the DeLorean design to celebrate its 54th anniversary, thus confirming its official involvement in the DeLorean EVolved project.
