The ArchiAfrika Pavilion brings black and diaspora voices to Venice, creating a platform for emerging young architects from Africa and the diaspora. The pavilion designed by Studio NYALI, an emerging architecture and design research studio, is inspired by the Jamestown Cafe in Accra and the central courtyard form commonly found in traditional African architecture. Joe Osae-Addo, director of ArchiAfrika, is a Ghanaian architect and a leading spokesperson for contemporary African architecture over the last two decades, through the ArchiAfrika organisation. In his work, he has worked to promote a new generation of African architects who are attentive to the continent’s architectural identity and the urban landscape of cities.
The pavilion was built in collaboration with 121 Collective, and students from Kingston University in London.
The exhibitions will alternate during the opening months of the Architecture Biennale:

ArchiAfrika Pavilion by Time Space Existence at the Venice Biennale
As part of the European Cultural Centre’s “Time Space Existence” collateral exhibition, the pavilion hosts four rotating exhibitions on contemporary African architecture.
