When asked why he painted dollars, Warhol answered he couldn’t think of anything people liked more. Business, advertising, art, and genius: Fabbrica del Vapore, from 22 October to 26 March 2023, welcomes an exhibition dedicated to one of the most extravagant artists of the 20th century: Andy Warhol.
Curated by Achille Bonito Oliva, the exhibition explores the different seasons of the artistic revolution of this American master: the 1950s, when he made a name for himself as a commercial illustrator; the 1960s, one of his most productive periods, when he depicted commercial subjects such as the Campbell’s Soup cans turning them into authentic icons and portrayed very famous characters such as Liz Taylor and Marilyn Monroe; the 1970s, when Warhol became The society artist, and finally the 1980s when he was the mentor of a new generation of artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring. An exhibition displaying silk screen printing creations, advertisements, and symbols testifying to one of Warhol’s most famous quotes: “Department stores are kind of like museums”.
