Imago. Imaging. Image. This is the focus of the new Fondazione Prada exhibition project in collaboration with gta exhibitions. “Sturm&Drang” (storm and stress) is the title of this extraordinary exhibition on from 9 September 2021 to 23 January 2022 at Osservatorio Fondazione Prada. Curated by Luigi Alberto Cippini, Fredi Fiscli and Niels Olsen, this project aims at breaking down and explaining the current meaning of images, from complex digital modelling to their impact on our everyday lives. Films, videogames, medical science, engineering, visual arts, television, advertising and virtual reality are the various subjects explored in the show.
The concept underpinning this project is one very relevant today. The global pandemic has forced the world population towards virtual communication, shifting the notion of information and interaction from in-person to social media, and thus to image. “Sturm&Drang” offers representations of real and imaginary spaces, spanning the entire digital process, investigating the phases and the methods with which they are produced. The display is structured on two floors. On the first viewers will be presented with two different scenarios: the Military First Person Shooter, a weapon-based combat inspired by videogames and military training programmes. The second setting, is instead dedicated to the cyberpunk novel by Canadian-American author William Gibson entitled Neuromancer.
On the second floor of the Osservatorio viewers will find a variety of displays and concepts: a wall with many monitors shows online tutorials about how to create images or simulate architectural spaces. 3D settings and optical tables complete this exhibition devoted to research and discovery, wonder and surprise, offering especially to those who are not in the industry an idea and the evolution of images in the different worlds touched by our contemporary dimension.
