Is Motorola Aura the “nostalgia phone” to remake this year?

A series of interesting renderings by Carota Design show how the company could revive another of its classic designs to experiment with a different smartphone form factor.

With its Razr foldable smartphone, Motorola has been able to leverage the nostalgia for a popular design from the past while making a strong design statement in the current smartphone market. It’s early to say whether Motorola’s take on the new foldable smartphones trend lead by Samsung will be successful, but Motorola certainly has plenty more options to explore and bring back successful designs from its glorious past that could help redefining the way smartphones look like today.
A great candidate for this would be the  Motorola Aura, an iconic luxury mobile telephone that the company launched in late 2008. Design studio Carota Design has come up with a concept showing how a revived Aura - renamed Motorola Revolve -  could look like today.
The pivoting mechanism is just the same, but instead of a single circular screen and a keyboard, the new Aura would feature two oval OLED screens, and a new interface based on their shape. Unlike the Razr, the Moto Revolve wouldn’be a flagship phone. Instead it could be a valid alternative for a lower tier of the market and a quirky new gadget luring everyone who’s interested in ditching big screens in favor of a more pocketable form factor.
