Polaroid Lab prints your smartphone photos in full analog fashion

Forget Bluetooth: Polaroid Originals’ newest gadget prints pictures from your phone’s gallery by taking a picture of the picture on the screen.

Polaroid Originals has officially launched the Polaroid Lab, a portable printer that can turn your smartphone pictures into actual polaroids using a fully analog process. Unlike other similar devices, which connect via Bluetooth to the device storing the pictures, The Lab works more like a scanner: you open the pic you want to print in the Originals app, place your phone face-down on the top plate and then press the Lab’s red shutter button. The machine proceeds to take an actual picture of the picture you’re displaying on the phone’s screen and voilà, in a few second you’ll be ready to flap around the instant print to make the photo appear, like you would with a traditional polaroid. The Lab's goal is to help you turn more of your forgotten digital photos into physical prints that you can pin to a wall, give to friends or use to compose wall photomosaics like a teenager from the 80’s. It’s also just another inconvenient contraption that plays heavily on nostalgia and you’ll use only a few times as a cool party favor. We still love the idea, though, and we’re positive it’s gonna sell like hot cakes this Christmas.
The Lab will be available from October 15 and it will retail for 129€.
