iOS 13: iPhone goes black (to never come back?)

Dark mode is one of the many new features that Apple is introducing with its annual update.

As per tradition with the global release of a new iPhone model also comes a system update which involves a vast array of Apple devices. iPadOS will make a huge difference for the brand's tablets and is coming later this month, but iOS 13 is ready to go out of beta and be officially available from Thursday September 19. The most evident difference will be the Dark Mode, already introduced on MacOs in 2018 and now also on portable devices. It's system-wide and changes the hues to black and dark grey on apps and notifications. The effect is a pretty different iOS from the bright one that you were acquainted to. Changes can be made from Settings or Control Center panel.

QuickPath keyboard is a new swipe-to-type feature for the stock keyboard, and it works great. It's an option that previously you could only have with third-party apps. The share function also changes, and now presents (like Android does) a fast selection of contacts in the first row. They're selected by AI and not customizable (and that's not good). Reminders has been completely redesigned, trying to reorganize the to-do lists within 4 main categories/buttons: Today, Scheduled, All and Flagged.

Biggest changes in the camera-related apps will be seen in the new iPhones 11 Pro, but there are minor tweaks also for older device: you can change the intensity of light in Portrait Mode and there's FaceTime Attention Correction that will make you always appear looking straight to the camera (please make this also for selfies). Photos app has been partially redesigned.

Apple Arcade is one of the biggest new features and it's embedded in the App Store. It's a subscription service that allows users to download and play over 100 games, making more than ever the iPhone our modern-times Gameboy. There's also a new Find My app, new memojis and betters Maps. iOS should also make your phone faster (in Face Id unlocking, for example) and smarter in sparing battery from ageing. Siri will sound more natural and finally, you'll be able to access Wi-Fi and Bluetooth menus from the Control Center.
