Sony's new minimal Bluetooth turntable mixes old and new

The company is leveraging the growing popularity of vinyl records with its PS-LX310BT record player.

The experience of listening to a vinyl record, despite the recent rediscovery of the old-school medium, hasn’t changed much from the 70’s or the 80’s. You need a record player, an audio receiver with an amplifier and a good pair of speakers, all connected with a good amount of wires. Sony is trying to change that perception with its new PS-LX310BT, a new record player with Bluetooth built-in. The remarkably minimalistic device can deliver the sound of the record being played directly to any Bluetooth speaker in its proximity, thanks to a simple pairing system. Audiophiles will never be convinced that filtering down a record’s sound into a digitalized stream is a good idea, but for the rest of us mortals the PS-LX310BT is still a great opportunity to enjoy an old record collection with the wireless freedom we got accustomed to in recent years. Pre-announced at CES 2019, the PS-LX310BT is now available to buy with a suggested price of around 250€.
