At Salone del Mobile 2019, in Milan, Ikea and Sonos have unveiled the whole Symfonisk product range. Along with the Symfonisk bookshelf speaker, which has already won a Red Dot design award even before its official launch, the line-up will include the Symfonisk table lamp. The wi-fi enabled smart speaker is the lamp base itself: it packs a punch in a sealed enclosure with two class-D Digital Amplifiers, one tweeter and one mid-woofer. The table lamp will behave like all other Sonos products, enabling multi-room audio from the Sonos app and all the other compatible apps, such as Spotify and, after the product launch in August, IKEA’s smart home app. The lightbulb included with the lamp can be dimmed via a knob on the side of the lamp, but won’t be smart. If you’ll want to control it with your phone or through Alexa/Siri/Google Assistant, you’ll need to swap it with an additional smart lightbulb.
With a 179€ price tag, the Sonos lamp will be cheaper than the Sonos One speaker, with a sound quality that, according to the company, will be at least on par with it.
Sonos and Ikea launched a table lamp that’s also a speaker
The Symfonisk line-up developed by the two companies will include a table lamp doubling as a smart speaker.
