Ford has made a dog kennel that can shield dogs from the loud noise of fireworks, a major source of anxiety and fear for house pets all over the world. The kennel has a vaguely American mid-century design style and it features Ford’s Active Noise Control, i.e. the same noise cancelling system used in the manufacturer’s Edge SUV to suppress engine noise inside the car. The project is another chapter of Ford’s Interventions series, aimed at applying some of the carmaker’s in-car technology to other areas of life. Albeit being top-notch viral material, the kennel’s looks more like a nice marketing stunt than a commercial product that dog owners will be able to buy anytime soon. "We wondered how the technologies we use in our cars could help people in other situations," said Ford of Europe brand content manager Lyn West. "Making sure dogs and their owners could enjoy a stress-free New Year's Eve seemed like the perfect application for our Active Noise Control system." It’s also a quite narrow application of such a technology to solve an oddly specific first world problem. But hey –– marketing, right?
