Best of CES 2019

Smart home and virtual assistants were the protagonists this year at the Consumer Electronic Show.

Ultraslim laptops with almost bezel-less displays (Asus), a smartwatch that needs no charging, a rollable tv (LG) and a modular one (Samsung), headphones that use AI to cancel noise (Jabra), a low cost and super ecological washing machine (Heatworks Tetra), an incredible speaker for outdoor parties (Sony). New solutions to mobility and accessibility. And a gadget that was first prized, then censored. That’s only a partial list of some of the most innovative new products presented this year in Las Vegas, at the world’s most famous fair of consumer electronics. But the biggest trend was without any chance of doubt the pervasive, invisible yet ubiquitous presence of Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. You could find the world’s leading virtual assistants not only connected to speakers and screens, but also to mirrors (Simplehuman, HiMirror) and other bathroom accessories (Kohler), kitchens (Whirpool and KitchenAid), even simple planks of wood (Mui) or alarm clocks (Lenovo). Everything is getting smart and connected. At home and in our lives.
