From August, travelers won’t have to spend any time for parking when they arrive at Gatwick Airport, in London. They will just leave their car in a drop-off zone and summon a robotic valet using a touch-screen terminal. The robot, named Stan, will arrive and carry their car to one of 270 spaces in an high-density parking lot. It doesn’t need to get inside the car and so it doesn’t require the drivers to hand over their keys; it just lifts the vehicles from behind and moves them around the parking lot. In this way, the cars can be parked really close each on to the other, because Stan has no need to open the car doors. So, Gatwick says that the actual 6000 parking spaces should be increased to 8500.  Similar projects have been tested in Paris, Lyon and Dusseldorf.
