A trailer which looks like a geodesic dome, with a structure that recalls the films of the golden age of cyperpunk. Futurelight is a curious combination of adventure, practicality and technology. The name is in fact that of a new completely waterproof and breathable fabric, and a concept that brings together both aspects has been created in order to test it out. The result is this trailer which, in theory, could sleep two people. The nano-level holes in fact allow Futurelight to let air through while blocking water, thus guaranteeing the transpiration necessary for air exchange and the waterproofing needed to protect from external agents.

From a functionality point of view, Designworks, BMW’s design centre, has re-worked the “teardrop trailer”, a particular trailer with a teardrop shape which was created in the 1930s in the USA and which stands out for its compact size. The idea is for a means of transport which can accommodate and protect one or two people, and which can even be towed by small cars, but is above all agile enough to be taken off-road. Of futuristic inspiration, the habitat has a dome-like design, with the minimalist lines and large wheels typical of vehicles which express freedom. Car experts will no doubt notice a clear reference to the design of the Gina Light Visionary Model, a concept from 2008 which had a special elasticated and water-repellent fabric instead of the usual bodywork which automatically adapted its aerodynamics to driving conditions.
