Diabla. The outdoor collection that elevates pvc to a noble material

Sunbeds, director’s chair and bean bags for an unconventional lifestyle, inspired by the grace and the bold sense of colour of the past.

What the creatives say of Diabla, the new outdoor collection launched by Gandiablasco, is that their furniture is the expression of an unconventional and  unpredictableway of life. Nevertheless, the promotional pictures used to advertise it depicts the stylized leisure
– though athletic – of refined girls. And they don’t even look completely contemporary. The bathing caps, the hats, the visors and the sunglasses wore by models are the same from Horst P. Horst pictures from the thrities and forties. Same goes for the striking poses and the one-piece swinsuits. Let’s be clear, there is nothing wrong in all this. But also nothing unconventional. But in all fairness, thinking about the overexposure of swan and slice of pizza floats, it represents a breath of fresh air. And maybe, excatly the real revolution set in motion by Diabla. One that inside a saturated world of the outdoor made in pvc invest in a fantasy cemented in a glorious classicism.

Elevating the plastic material – and the bean bags, the director’s chairs, the chaise longues and poufs – to status symbols of a new lifestyle. That however, like many other brands, to take a step away from the ordinary adopts the narrative technique of embracing the past. Not bad, you will say, if all this bygone glamour is the excuse for introducing a palette of colours a little more varied, perfect for a series of color blocking pictures like the Ice cream books ones, the Ig account who matches book and ice cream according to similiar shades. And also the excuse, we instead will say, for eliminating the “engineering” plus of built-in lights that allows the single elements to become the base of a temporary beach bar, once they are gathered together. Here, if Diabla really represents the unconventional ones, take notice that having a cocktail on the beach – nowadays – is not a trend. You should go to the nearest five star hotel bar. And only when you are dressed up to the nines.
