Construction has begun on the Bosco della Musica, the new campus of the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory of Milan, which will rise in Rogoredo, south of the Milano Santa Giulia expansion district defined by the masterplan by Mario Cucinella Architects, and as part of a broader urban regeneration program for the south-eastern quadrant of the city.
Designed by the firm Settanta7 in collaboration with Stain Engineering, GPA S.r.l. and Vibes S.r.l., the complex is intended to play a key role in the new urban framework: a connective element between the historic Rogoredo district to the south and the new Santa Giulia development to the north, home to the arena built for the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Games.
In line with the large urban park envisioned by the masterplan, the project unfolds as a system of buildings immersed in greenery and arranged in a sequence of terraces. Their organic, sinuous forms evoke the image of leaves fallen and stirred by the wind.
The project also includes the restoration and adaptive reuse of the “Ex Chimici” building, which will become the home of the Conservatory’s rock, pop and jazz school. It will also feature a 400-seat auditorium, wrapped in a shimmering envelope of colored ceramic shingles, and a multifunctional space dedicated to electronic and experimental music. Completing the development are a 200-bed student residence and a summer arena for concerts.
A network of fluid pathways between indoor and outdoor spaces will connect areas for learning with spaces for social interaction, creating a system of public routes designed to embed the campus in the everyday life of the neighborhood.
