Sony enters the growing clip-style earbud category with the LinkBuds Clip, a new pair of open ear buds that mark an interesting turning point for the Japanese company. Traditionally Sony been very attached to its form factors, but with this new product it clearly tries to follow the new “earbuds-as-a-jewel” trend that seems to be working well for many competitors: every major Chinese tech brand has one of more models on his catalogue at the moment.
The LinkBuds Clip’s C-shaped design hooks gently over the ear without entering the canal, offering three listening modes: Standard for everyday use, Voice Boost for noisy environments, and Sound Leakage Reduction for quieter spaces. Sony's audio experience shows in the DSEE upscaling and 10-band EQ, while a bone conduction sensor paired with AI-based noise reduction promises clear calls even in urban chaos.
Sony’s original LinkBuds, with their distinctive "donut" design, were an original and visually striking idea but came with some limitations in terms of portability and extended comfort. The subsequent model, the LinkBuds Open, the company delivered a new open-ear experience evolving along the same design principles. With the LinkBuds Clip, the company finally abandons that direction to embrace the clip style, a form factor that Chinese manufacturers have popularised in recent years.
The new LinkBuds Clip will be available from February 2026 in Greige, Black, Lavender and Green.
