For the first time in its history, the Pinacoteca di Brera opens its halls to fashion, marking the fiftieth anniversary of the Giorgio Armani maison with an exhibition titled “Giorgio Armani: Milano, per amore” and a runway show in the Courtyard of Honor of Palazzo Brera, during Milan Fashion Week. The exhibition opens today, September 24, 2025, in the Milanese museum spaces, presenting 120 archival garments selected by the designer, who passed away in early September, and juxtaposed with some of the most important works from the permanent collection.
Giorgio Armani’s last exhibition opens in Milan’s Brera, the district that shaped his world
“Giorgio Armani: Milano, per amore” reimagines, for the first time, the curatorial path of Pinacoteca di Brera’s through Armani’s vision, celebrating not only a career but also the educational function of fashion as a cultural language and artistic expression.

The exhibition, curated in collaboration with Brera and under the patronage of the Italian Ministry of Culture, unfolds as an intimate and authorial narrative, where Armani’s stylistic code engages in a dialogue with the history of art, a “close encounter” between garments and masterpieces echoing his deep connection with this Milanese district, “with its dual soul, cultivated yet vibrant,” where design culture, architecture, visual arts, and fashion converge.
Following the exhibition at Armani/Silos "Giorgio Armani Privé 2005 - 2025: Twenty Years of Haute Couture" which will close on December 31, this new presentation continues to trace an aesthetic trajectory that elevated every garment to the status of artwork, further emphasized here by a play of formal, material, and chromatic correspondences. The encounter of disciplines and codes is made possible thanks to Armani/Archivio, which since late August has also existed as a digital platform collecting images, films, and unpublished materials—created precisely to document and share more than half a century of stylistic research and innovation.
As Angelo Crespi, director of the Pinacoteca di Brera, stated:“Giorgio Armani was one of the highest expressions of Italian creativity, embodied in the essentiality and rigor of form—a rigor that evolved from aesthetic to ethical, shaping his way of living and working. In this sense, Giorgio Armani represented Milan to the fullest. He was also the most authentic expression of Brera’s culture, a unique place in the world where art, research, and innovation have thrived for five centuries. This is why I believed it right and necessary, already last year, to celebrate in the Pinacoteca the fiftieth anniversary of the maison with an exhibition that highlights his absolute talent and inimitable style”.
