This floating resort in Saudi Arabia is the new destination for creators

Designed by Killa Design, one of Dubai's leading architectural firms, the ultra-trendy resort is part of the Red Sea Project and offers a fresh take on the traditional tourist village. It has proven hugely popular on social media.

This 120-hectare luxury resort, which floats in the Red Sea, has become one of the most popular places for influencers and digital creators.
The Shebara Resort embodies a growing trend in hospitality that focuses on individual accommodation units, often nestled in nature or suspended above breathtaking landscapes, offering an even more exclusive experience. The focus is no longer just on sumptuous suites or personalised services, but also on ensuring privacy, contact with nature and comfort, creating an "architecture of intimacy".

Killa Design's architectural design is inspired by pearl formation and comprises 73 polished steel villas, some of which are located on the island's coast and others directly on the water.

Built and fitted out offshore to protect the coral reefs, the individual units arrived on the island almost complete in an effort to reduce their environmental impact. This is because Shebara is part of the Red Sea Project: a large-scale sustainable tourism development initiative launched by Saudi Arabia as part of its Vision 2030 plan to transform tourism through a more regenerative and environmentally friendly approach.

Despite costing between $2,500 and $3,000 per night depending on the time of year, the floating units have taken TikTok by storm. Travel vloggers' reels feature large windows, sea-facing pools and futuristic minibars as they enjoy their stay in penthouses on the water.

However, the debate on the actual sustainability of these structures, particularly in fragile marine environments such as the Red Sea, remains open.
