Bang & Olufsen relaunches the seminal Beosound 9000c

The product marks the second project in the brand's Recreated Classic Series after the Beogram 4000c record player from 2020. It's available in only 200 units, costing $55,000 each.

Danish high-end audio brand Bang & Olufsen is relaunching its iconic Beosound 9000c CD Player and sound system. The product is not new in any way or form—it's a refurbished original. The project is the second launch of the B&O Recreated Classic Series, a line of revisited old products that the company locates, sometimes acquires back, and then refurbishes to sell anew to collectors and audio enthusiasts.

The original CD player, envisioned by David Lewis, the British industrial designer who deeply contributed to B&O's identity in the '80s and the '90s, debuted in 1996 and marked a significant advancement in how music was experienced at home. Unlike the common CD players of the time, the Beosound 9000c distinguished itself thanks to a unique design with six stacked CDs in full view and advanced functionality. The player even allowed users to create playlists that spanned multiple discs, seamlessly transitioning from one track or album to the next without delay.

The new upgraded version of the Beosound 9000c comes with a few contemporary touches. For example, B&O engineers added Bluetooth connectivity to let users control playback and playlists through the B&O app.

"Bang & Olufsen has sourced 200 units of the original Beosound 9000 CD player and returned them to the company's factory in Struer, Denmark, the same place where they were first created from 1996", says B&O in its press release. "The CD players are disassembled and thoroughly inspected by a team of skilled service technicians, including many of the same colleagues that worked on the Beosound 9000's in the 1990s, using the original workshop tables. Every component is painstakingly cleaned and repaired, and once they have been inspected, each Beosound 9000 is individually tested and fine-tuned to meet Bang & Olufsen's exacting specifications".

Beosystem 9000c Recreated Classic is available in Cosmic Black or Natural Aluminium. Only 200 units will be built, each costing a whopping €50.000.
