In New York, Basquiat’s apartment is available to rent for $60,000

The artist lived, worked, and died in that space, which had been rented to him by Andy Warhol.

È in affitto appartamento al numero 57 di Great Jones Street, nel quartiere NoHo di New York, dove Jean-Michel Basquiat ha vissuto e lavorato a New York – dal 1983 fino alla sua morte, il 12 agosto del 1988. Tuttavia, verranno prese in considerazione soltanto proposte a uso commerciale. Il prezzo richiesto per l’unità immobiliare, di poco più di 600 metri quadrati, su due piani più un seminterrato, è di 60mila dollari al mese, per un periodo minimo di dieci anni di affitto.

The building’s façade, until recently, was covered with graffiti that paid homage to the artist, as well as messages and tags from his contemporaries. Unfortunately, however, the walls were recently cleaned.

The Brooklyn artist was a central figure in the Downtown scene of the 1970s and 1980s, questioning conventional values and stereotypes with his art. In the early 1980s, he became a friend and collaborator of Andy Warhol, with whom he created several works. It was Warhol who rented him the apartment on Great Jones Street, and many of his famous Neo-expressionist works were created within it. Basquiat died in that same space at the age of 27, due to a heroin overdose.
