BIG’s master plan redesigns a previous one of 15,000 square meters, proposing a footprint of 13,700 square meters. The continuous volume, a seven-story building based on sustainable construction principles, is distributed along the perimeter of Esbjerg island, freeing the center for a large, protected park, creating a contrast between the industrial harbor and the quiet environment of the campus, while, the outer side of the perimeter allows views of the lagune.
BIG’s concept is to recreate an entire city in just one building. The undulating roof will become a garden, with a one-kilometer pathway, and the base of the building is raised by seven meters to avoid floods.
