The Academy Museum by Renzo Piano opens in Los Angeles

The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures inaugurates on September 30th, with a mission: to be just “as immersive as a movie”.

Renzo Piano restored and revitalized the historic Saban Building, at the corner of Wilshire Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue in Los Angeles. Dedicated to the art and science of movies, the Academy Museum will offer different experiences and insights, combining the architect’s two greatest passions: design and cinema.

The Saban Building, which represents the past, features seven floors, including exhibition spaces, a 288-seat theater, educational and special event spaces, conservation areas, a café and a store. Then, glass bridges will connect the old facility to a spherical addition, the future, which hosts the David Geffen Theater and the rooftop Dolby Family Terrace, with its views on the Hollywood Hills. More than a museum in the strict sense, this dynamic film centre will be at the same time experimental and entertaining, educational and immersive.
