San Marino Outlet Experience, a project by One Works for one of the world’s oldest republics, has been unveiled: a new retail-experience oriented place that relates to the historical context and landscape of San Marino. The outlet is intended to be a point of reference and promotion for the microstate, housing a tourist information point managed in collaboration with the San Marino Tourism Secretariat. Moving away from the classic canons of outdoor commercial space, the San Marino outlet was designed starting from the analysis of the typical hilly structure of this territory. Architectural form and distribution have been developed taking into account the spatiality of the historic city, reinterpreted in a contemporary way: four squares on different levels dialogue through gently sloping paths. The openings between the buildings are designed to encourage natural ventilation, while underground car parks and shaded public areas prevent solar radiation. The complex is designed according to the criteria of environmental sustainability: the system solutions guarantee energy and water-sanitary needs.
