“Today, I am honoured to take on this role at such a vital and transformative time. I’d like to thank everyone who supported me”, says Maria Porro, the new president of Salone del Mobile, after being nominated for the role. “I hope to prove myself worthy of this event and its fabulous, successful heritage. I and the entire Board of Directors will be working to ensure that, as a unique and indispensable design showcase, the Salone rises to meet future challenges regarding sustainability, digitalization, research, innovation, creativity and inclusiveness, as ever maintaining the highest quality”.
A veteran in the design world, her CV includes several prestigious positions: with a degree in Set Design from the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera, she is still the marketing and communications director of her great-grandfather’s company, Porro s.p.a., a historic leader in Italian furniture; president of Assarredo, the national association of furniture, furnishing accessories and commercial furnishings manufacturers; and now president of the Salone del Mobile following the resignation of Claudio Luti. An important position, especially after the long pause caused by the pandemic, which has created many expectations for the upcoming Salone in September.
