Brera|z: a new magazine is born!

The new magazine promoted by Equita and produced by Domus will be presented on December 16 in the Maria Theresa Room of the Braidense Library in Milan.

“Rooted in history looking towards the world” is how Brera|z presents itself. It is a new editorial product that starting from Palazzo Brera extends to the city of Milan. An innovative magazine, created by Editoriale Domus and promoted by Equita, which contains the stories and current events of the institutions that live in it and at the same time opens up to the city with contemporary art galleries, architecture, exhibitions and places to eat and drink, edited by Cucchiaio d’Argento, the publisher’s historic cook book.

The idea stems from a pre-existing relationship between Editoriale Domus and Equita and the Brera Academy, that saw the publication, last year, of Accademia Aperta, the end-of-year academic exhibition open to the city. But it is a passion that lies behind the birth of this new editorial product, that of the CEO of Equita, Andrea Vismara, for art and culture, which Editoriale Domus has shared since its founding in 1928; and that all the institutions inhabiting the Palace – Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera, Pinacoteca di Brera, Osservatorio astronomico, Orto botanico, Biblioteca Braidense, Archivio Ricordi, Istituto Lombardo di scienze e lettere – welcome and promote by collaborating with content for dissemination but also for research.

The magazine, a bilingual quarterly Italian/English, is an editorial product that highlights one of the centers of cultural production in the city center, Palazzo Brera, and is aimed at the large Italian, but also international public that cares about culture, that attends museums, universities, libraries, and that helps to make Milan the vibrant city it is. In the first issue of Brera|z, an interview with Liliana Moro, an artist who, having trained at the Academy, was in the Italian Pavilion at this year’s Venice Biennale, an interview with James Bradburne, director of the Pinacoteca, who told us about his vision of what a museum is, a focus on the theme of education, and the reason why Martians were born in Milan. Four pages on special paper entrusted to the artist and teacher Gabriele Di Matteo who created them, in complete freedom, as if they were a work of art; how to discover the only perfumed plant that blooms in winter in the Botanical Garden but can be found throughout the city, many reviews of exhibitions, books and much more. The magazine is distributed in newsstands, bookstores and bookshops of museums in Milan. It will be discussed on Monday, December 16, 2019 by Andrea Vismara, CEO of Equita, Filippo Del Corno, Councillor for Culture of Milan, Walter Mariotti, editorial director of Domus, the director of the Art Gallery, James Bradburne and the Deputy Director of the Academy of Brera, Maria Cristina Galli, among others.
