Kanpur. Dipping a zebra in a deep sea of pink

The Pink Zebra: eclecticism, symmetry and colours inspired by Wes Anderson and the British Raj era.

Renesa Studio, The Pink Zebra Hotel, Kanpur, India, 2018

The Pink Zebra hotel by Renesa Studio is a concoction of references merging in one of the oldest buildings of Kanpur, India. The iconic quality of the renovated building invites the passers-by to discover its interiors which walls are dominated by a bold colour palette in pink, black and white.

As the photographs suggest, the architects were influenced by Wes Anderson’s scenographic taste for symmetry and restricted colour palettes. The site is a fascinating experience of cultivating the idea of renaissance of old structures in the British Raj Era to the new age Kanpur experience through an audacious narrative.
