Apple stool

Inspired by the apple cultivations in the Aomori prefecture in Japan, Takaaki Kamei designed a wooden stool handcrafted by a local factory using apple and hiba tree wood.

Japanese designer Takaaki Kamei pays a tribute to Aomori’s apple culture with a stool carefully manufactured by Kimura Woodcraft Factory. Crafted using a very special apple and hiba tree (a type of Japanese cypress) grown in the Aomori prefecture, north of Japan.

The founder of Kimura Woodcraft Factory had developed “the apple ladder” for apple cultivation utilising hiba fittings in Aomori. Now his great-grandchild, who followed in his footsteps, has been using his own apple tree products. The concept lies in homage to the apple ladder and apple cultivation with a seat that resembles the same rounded shape of the fruit, making it a very comfortable piece of furniture. The stool comes in two dimensions, 60 cm and 43 cm.
